Should I keep thee 700r-4 in my 92 chevt 2500?

The has gone out several times. The last time I took it to the best guy around. I paid $1600 and he had to work on it 5-6 times in the year after it was rebuilt. He did stand behind his warrenty, But the went out again. I was thinking of switching to a turbo 350. All I use it for is plowing, and hauling around my toys. I just dont want to pay another $1600 and have it last for a year or so. What would you do???
