Why is my home phone making a frying noise?

Whenever I use our cordless phone, there's a loud frying/crackling noise coming over the line. It's only been a problem the last few days. I don't know if the two problems are related, but our DSL internet started acting screwy around the same time. The phone is crackling and the internet keeps going in and out every few minutes. Embarq is our provider, btw. Any ideas of what might be the cause?
