I had an accident and my insurance had lapsed. I was sued for damages to the other car and my licence suspend?

I was ordered to pay the damages which i have not paid yet. I got a different car and need to have my license reinstated. The cost to reinstate is 100 dollars. Will i be able to do this if I haven't paid off the law suit. I cannot get a tag or insurance till I get a license. I live in Alabama. I think it should be no problem but im not sure if they keep records on this sort of thing. Anyone know the protacol?
