Does anyone know anything about torrents?

I hope someone can help me out. I downloaded this book from a torrent website. Everything downloaded okay but when I open it up the encoding isn't right. It's just a bunch of symbols and and I can't figure out how to get it to plain english without messing it up. Is there anything I can do or does the torrent website have to fix it? Thanks for any help. I appreciate it!
